Routine Eye Exams

Routine eye exams are important for maintaining good vision and overall eye health. Even if you don't have noticeable vision problems, regular exams can help detect early signs of eye diseases and other health conditions. Most people should have a comprehensive eye exam every one to two years, but frequency can vary based on age, risk factors, and individual needs.

Glaucoma Treatment in Three Seconds

Glaucoma is a disease that damages your eye’s optic nerve. Your eye constantly makes aqueous humor – a clear liquid in the front of the eye. As new aqueous humor flows into your eye, the same amount should drain out. The fluid drains out through an area called the drainage angle. This process keeps pressure in the eye, called intraocular pressure (IOP), stable. If the drainage angle is not working properly, fluid builds up. Pressure inside the eye rises, damaging the optic nerve. At Chattanooga Vision Center, the most advanced, state-of-the-art, in-office laser technology is used to treat this condition and prevent vision loss.

"No Glasses" Cataract Surgery

A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens, which is located behind the pupil. It occurs when proteins in the lens break down and clump together, forming a cloudy area that blocks light from reaching the retina. This clouding can cause blurred vision, glare, halos around lights, and other vision problems. At Chattanooga Vision Center, Dr. Reynolds and Dr. Hildebrand specialize in replacing cataracts with the most advanced intraocular lenses, including “no glasses” implants.

Dry Eye Treatment

Dry eye disease is a common condition that occurs when your tears aren't able to provide adequate lubrication for your eyes. If you have dry eyes, your eyes may sting or burn, a stringy mucus may appear around your eyes, or you may experience sensitivity to light, eye redness, a sensation of having something in your eyes, difficulty wearing contact lenses, difficulty driving at night, blurred vision, or eye fatigue. Dry eye disease treatments range from simple, at-home remedies to prescription medications and procedures. If you experience persistent dry eyes, schedule a consultation with us.

Macular Degeneration Care

Macular degeneration, or age-related macular degeneration (AMD), is a disease that damages the macula, the central part of the retina, leading to vision loss, particularly in the central field of vision. There are two types of AMD. Dry AMD is the most common type, characterized by the thinning of the macula and the accumulation of deposits under the retina. It is treated mostly with lifestyle changes and nutritional supplements. Wet AMD involves the growth of abnormal blood vessels under the retina and is treated with injections.

Diabetic Eye Exams

Patients with diabetes are at an increased risk of developing eye diseases that can cause vision loss and blindness, such as diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, and glaucoma. For this reason, it is important for diabetic patients to have a comprehensive annual eye exam specifically focused on detecting diabetic retinopathy and any other disorders. Key aspects of a diabetic eye exam include examination of the retina, vision testing, and glaucoma screening.

Near/Farsighted Management

Hyperopia (farsightedness) and myopia (nearsightedness) are both caused by refractive errors that can be treated with corrective lenses or surgery. For hyperopia, or farsightedness, options include reading glasses, bifocals, progressive lenses, or multifocal contact lenses, as well as surgical procedures like refractive lens exchange. Myopia, or nearsightedness, is commonly treated with glasses, contact lenses, or LASIK surgery.
